Description
Promethazine 50mg/ml
Promethazine injection is used to treat several conditions, including allergies, motion sickness, nausea and vomiting, anxiety before surgery, and pain after surgery. It’s also used as a sleep aid, including before and after surgery.
Promethazine hydrochloride is a phenothiazine derivative which possesses antihistaminic, sedative, antimotion-sickness, antiemetic, and anticholinergic effects. Promethazine is a competitive H1 receptor antagonist, but does not block the release of histamine.
Structural differences from the neuroleptic phenothiazines result in its relative lack (1/10 that of chlorpromazine) of dopamine antagonist properties. Equinate I.V./I.A.

Clinical effects are generally apparent within 5 minutes of an intravenous injection and within 20 minutes of an intramuscular injection. Duration of action is four to six hours, although effects may persist up to 12 hours.

Following intravenous administration in healthy volunteers, the plasma half-life for promethazine has been reported to range from 9 to 16 hours.
The mean plasma half-life for promethazine after intramuscular a nistration in healthy volunteers has been reported to be 9.8 ±
How it works
Promethazine belongs to a class of drugs called phenothiazines. A class of drugs is a group of medications that work in a similar way. These drugs are often used to treat similar conditions.
Promethazine works by preventing the release of a substance called histamine from certain cells in your body. Histamine is normally released when you’re exposed to things you’re allergic to, such as pollen, dander, mold, or chemicals.
By preventing the release of histamine, this drug causes sleepiness and helps with pain control. This is because histamine helps regulate wakefulness and helps to keep you alert and your senses heightened.
This drug also works to reduce stimulation of the part of your brain that sends signals to make you vomit.
This drug can cause extreme drowsiness. It can also cause other side effects.
